Smallholder Farmers and Transportation by Samuel 11 March 2022

Transportation is one of the main factors for rural smallholder farmers to exchange their farming products to the market and to make their farms productive. In my fieldwork, as usual, today I used horse transportation to travel from Butajira (the city of the Masken woreda) to my study kebele Yetabon, which is almost 7 km away. Most of the people in this area used, same as me, horse transportation for both human and material use.

Donkey is the most dominant transportation method for farmers to transport their farm products. As shown in the pictures above, throughout the week they use it as much as they want because it is available for them. When the products of the farm are more than the capacity of a donkey, they use trucks as additional transportation.
